Welcome to CardSynth ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle the information you provide when using our application, which helps users create Anki flashcards from Japanese text.

Our service is a prototype and currently does not require user accounts or store personal data long-term. Your use of CardSynth constitutes your acceptance of this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

The only information we actively collect is the Japanese text you voluntarily submit for analysis ("Input Text"). We do not collect any personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, or IP address through the core functionality of the application.

3. How We Use Your Information

Your Input Text is used solely for the purpose of providing the CardSynth service. This includes:

  • Analyzing the text to identify key vocabulary and sentences.
  • Generating educational content, such as translations, definitions, and readings.
  • Creating relevant images and audio pronunciations to enrich the flashcards.
  • Packaging the generated content into an Anki-compatible file for you to download.

The Input Text is processed in-memory and is not stored on our servers after your session ends.

4. Third-Party Services

To provide our service, we rely on specialized third-party AI service providers. When you submit text, it is sent to these services for processing. This includes providers for:

  • Text Analysis & Content Generation: For generating card content such as translations and explanations.
  • Image Generation: For creating images based on the vocabulary in your text.
  • Speech Synthesis: For generating Japanese audio pronunciations.

While we entrust these third-party services with processing your data, we take care to send only the minimum information necessary to perform the required function. We do not control their individual privacy practices, but we select them for their commitment to data security and privacy. Your data is used by them only to generate content for you at our request.

5. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information you provide. All communication with our servers and third-party APIs is encrypted using TLS/SSL. However, since the application is a prototype and we do not store your data, the primary security consideration relates to the transient data processing.

6. Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently received information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it.
